- "The Kingdoms of Astheria and Wardenfell had a shared destiny, both ruled by the same blood and built on top of each other. When Astheria fell, it was left to the House of Wardenfell to reclaim what was lost and restore the legacy of Asher Wardenfell to its rightful throne"
- —Volumn 4 on the Kingdoms of Aiscoria
The Kingdom of Wardenfell was founded in the wake of Asher Wardenfell death and the rise of Valance Whitemore in Asther proper. Valance took control from Asher firstborn, but proved unable to exert control over the boy without risking his position to the throne. In return for maintaining the peace, the Prince was able to cede a portion of the Astherian Kingdom - renamed the Kingdom of Wardenfell proper. The two kingdoms have since had a shared history of conflicts, brotherhood and distaste while knowing that both linages had claims to each other crowns (with the Wardenfells having a superior claim to the Whitemores)
The Kingdom of Wardenfell survived The Black Plagues and over the course of 80 years became a battle-hardened barrier keeping the Undead from spreading across Aiscoria. With the Fall of Astheria in 3870, and the presumed disapperance of the Astherian royal family. The King of Wardenfell has the last remaining claim to the Kingship of Astheria, and this motive is what drives the March on Astheria.
